A Miniaturized Active Thermography System to Inspect Composite Laminates

With the rapid increase of integration and complexity industrial components, inaccessibility inapplicability existing nondestructive testing devices have become a bottleneck for in situ inspection these objects. This article introduces miniaturized active thermography system featured with small-size, low-resolution, low-cost thermal sensor, where two optional excitation sources including flash laser are integrated. Dedicated data analysis approaches to evaluate defects proposed considering degraded signal quality. Three carbon fiber-reinforced polymer laminates variety evaluated quantitatively qualitatively using by comparing nonminiaturized systems. The results show that can work effectively degradation assessment composite laminates. Even technical limitations affect detectability, instance, low pixel resolution, this technique will play an important role inspect components geometrically intricate space.
